Celiac disease affects 1 in 133 people in the U.S, many of them undiagnosed. Most people with Celiac are positive for HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 genes, but most people with these genes never develop celiac disease. This points to environmental influences that cause a change in microbial ecology of the gut ... Read more »
The digestive system is now considered our “second brain.” It is home to most of our immune system. It has its own nervous system that can continue to function independent of our central nervous system. It communicates with every cell in our body. It houses at least 10 times more microbes than we have cells in our body. These microbes have 100 times more DNA than all… Read more »
How many times have you had a gut feeling about something? Have you ever experienced a diarrhea attack right before an exam or a job interview? These are examples of what scientists now call the Gut-Brain Axis, a two-way communication between your brain and gastric system. It is now known that many people… Read more »
Hormones are chemicals produced by a healthy body to regulate the activities of our cells and organs. There are many hormones in the body that interact harmoniously with each other, like instruments in a symphony, to give us a sense of well-being. Our bodies are designed… Read more »
One of the most important tenets of Functional Medicine is the concept of biochemical individuality, a concept first proposed in the 1940s by Roger Williams, discoverer of Vitamin B5. Biochemical individuality, the idea that each person has a unique biochemical fingerprint, led to an understanding that common ailments such as depression and anxiety arise from… Read more »
Pyrroles are chemicals that were identified over 50 years ago by researchers who observed that urine of certain psychiatric patients turn reddish-purpelish when exposed to light. Drs. Abraham Hoffer and Carl Pfiffer coined the term Pyrrole to identify and study these chemicals. Based on their studies of the urine of thousands of psychiatric patients, they identified… Read more »

Walsh’s Advanced Nutrient Therapy Protocol is rooted in the works of pioneers of orthomolecular medicine such as Drs. Abraham Hoffer, Carl Pfieffer, and Linus Pauling. Dr. Walsh’s work has revolutionized the treatment of mental illness through biochemical/nutrient therapy. My training with the Walsh Research Institute has given me a much wider understanding… Read more »
LDA (short for "low dose allergens", or ultra low dose enzyme activated immunotherapy) is a method of immunotherapy used to treat patients with many types of allergies and sensitivities, including those caused by foods, pollens, molds, dust and chemicals. LDA Immunotherapy is enhanced by a minute dose of the enzyme beta glucuronidase. The beta glucuronidase activates extremely minuscule doses of various allergens and stimulates the production of T Regulator (T Reg) cells. These cells actively "switch off" helper cells that are erroneously causing illness by misidentifying… Read more »
There is extensive documentation of the myriad negative effects of breathing difficulties during sleep, collectively known as sleep-disordered breathing. These negative effects can include fatigue, excess weight, headaches, chronic pain, sugar cravings, behavioral issues in children, chronic infections, allergies or asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Airway-Centered Disorder (ACD) is a structural and physiological condition of the mouth, jaw, nasal passages, tongue, or throat that involves an obstruction of the upper airways, which in turn can affect breathing 24 hours a day – including and especially during sleep. Deep, restorative sleep is critical to our ability to thrive. While I do not diagnose nor directly treat sleep disorders and disordered breathing, I am aware of the profound impact they can have on one’s health. As such, I offer guidance and research recommendations for patients who would like to explore this issue further.
